Modern Farmhouse Decor

Moving along quite comfortably now, the momentum has slowed a bit, but continues forward.  Once our little faux farmhouse became "livable", we have been able to work on projects at a more manageable pace.  The type of pace which allows me to stop when the kids come home and give them the attention needed for school and activities.

So I finally get to focus on the decor of our home, and make it more than a project. Each day it becomes more and more of a home.  Memories are being made, movies watched, games played, school projects completed and dinners created and savored at a dining room table.

Over 6 years ago, our daughter's grandma (birthdad's mom) gave us a table that she was getting rid of.  Since our last home didn't have a dining room, we have had this beauty in its box, stored away, waiting for the day to come out and shine.  Today is the day, well a couple weeks ago, that she gets her makeover and new high heels.

As you can see in the pictures above, the table is very traditional, with her meaty legs (not pictured) and dark stain.  (The legs had the same dark stain)  Accessorized with etched details on her skirt, like fine lace.  However, this style just wouldn't work for our modern farmhouse.

3 hours of sanding later and a few coats of Classic Grey stain, found at Lowe's, and we have this...

Then with the four extra legs and half of an old door, a cozy little bench to match.

Remember the lovely lava rock wall and fireplace?  Complete now with their very own accessories and jewels dressing the shelves, and handmade doors for skirts, the bookcases are ready for the red carpet.

I can't wait to share the story of the coffee table.  She's been lovingly called, the family cat, with 9 lives.  Her story coming soon.
