Demo Day
Yes, Chip Gaines, We love #demoday too. Tearing into walls and ripping stuff up can be very therapeutic. So my great friend Nichole joined me for #demoday and she even made some t-shirts for the occasion. (Love her for that btw). So we moved into our home on January 12th, and by move in, we simply moved boxed and beds and stuff that weekend, but as of this post, I have still not unpacked half the boxes from our move.
On January 13th, Carl and I went to town and started to throw the sledge hammers and got to work. 3 days later, Nichole joined in on what we named as our official #demoday. Nichole's husband is our "Mr Fix It". He has been working on all things plumbing and electrical for this remodel. Something neither Carl nor I want to even attempt to tackle.
Carl got started in the master bed and bedroom 1 closets. The game plan is to take out the walls and closets between the two rooms and open up for a large master suite. And man is this room gonna be sweet.
Naturally, Nichole and I posing for our #demoday debut, hammer, pry bars and all. For the record, my hair and attire has sadly not been high heels for two months now. Messy bun, painted riddled yoga pants and sweatshirts have been the chosen daily ensemble.
Here we have the front entryway with the front sitting room to the right. Picture left is the view from the kitchen. It was a small opening between the entryway and the kitchen. I need light, I need air, I need "open concept". This was a joy to tear into.
Wall 1 and 2...down. Same view from kitchen.
View from dining room
When we finally got the walls apart (see laying on the ground), I was able to get a great view of the vision of open concept we were going for. Standing in the front sitting room looking into the kitchen. Front door and entryway to my right in this picture. Seeing the walls come down was a breath of fresh air. Although this house is new to us, its always peaceful to feel the years of closed in feelings be knocked down and allow for more space in your heart and life. Ok, that got a little deep and philosophical. But in almost every project I work on, my mind goes to the analogy.
View from the sitting room before we put the wall back up....moved back 8 feet.
The wall in the kitchen is coming down to a half wall. "Open"...you get the idea. You can also see the soffit and cupboard above the fridge space have also come down. This space will become the new pantry.
And here is the wall moved back and back up in its new home spot. It looks happy there, can you see the smile and weight off its shoulders? Oh wait, that must be me smiling.
